Start with your POS provider's current hardware list, then check operating system, connection, receipt width, drawer kick port and scanner input mode for each device. A USB connector does not guarantee an accessory works with every POS app. Our barcode scanner guide explains 1D and 2D imager choices.
A small checkout may include a tablet, stand, scanner, receipt printer and drawer. Compatibility depends on how the POS software expects those devices to connect, not just whether their plugs fit.
Verify each component
| Device | Confirm before ordering |
|---|---|
| Tablet or computer | Supported OS version, ports and device-generation limits |
| Scanner | Supported model, USB HID or other input mode, barcode types and mobile-screen reading |
| Receipt printer | Supported driver, connection, paper width and cutter support |
| Cash drawer | Trigger cable and compatible receipt-printer port or POS interface |
| Network | Wi-Fi, Ethernet or Bluetooth requirements and any local network setup |
Use the POS provider’s list
Search the POS vendor’s compatibility page for each exact model and operating system. Check whether the list distinguishes printer connection types or specific firmware. Keep return windows aligned until the scanner, printer and drawer have been connected in the real checkout flow.

Common questions
Will any USB receipt printer work with my POS?
No. Verify the model, operating system, connection method and receipt width on the provider's current compatibility list.
Can a cash drawer connect directly to a tablet?
Many cash drawers connect through a compatible receipt printer or POS interface. Check the drawer and POS documentation for the supported trigger and cable.
What should I check before buying a scanner?
Confirm the barcode types you need, the POS app's supported scanner list, connection mode and whether it reads codes from phone screens.
